Backyard Wedding at a Midcentury Modern Home in Tucson, Arizona

There’s something about backyard weddings that just hit right! Melissa and Josh exchanged vows among their closest family at a stunning midcentury modern home in Tucson, Arizona. Only their immediate families and grandparents were in attendance. These days, I see many couples opting out of the big, expensive wedding cerebrations and doing something much smaller. There are many benefits to having a micro wedding: fostering an intimate atmosphere, being cost-effective and highly personalizable, easy coordination, being less stressful and relatively easy to coordinate. Check out photos of their intimate wedding celebration that was full of gorgeous Arizona scenery, midcentury modern details, the cutest pups, two loving families, and the sweetest bride and groom.

Being lovers of design, they rented this gorgeous home in Tucson, where they live, for their wedding day. I loved all the details of the home, their attire, and their personal ceremony. Josh’s bolo tie was perfect for their Southwest wedding in the desert.

Their ceremony took place in the front yard. Melissa’s sister officiated their wedding - which was perfect for their family-only, intimate nuptials.

A unique part of their wedding ceremony was when everyone helped plant and water a cactus as a symbol of their new union. I love this idea because it’s an interactive part of the wedding ceremony, and it represents love, strength, and nurturing. After their officiant said some words explaining the significance of this ritual, each family member helped water the cactus.

Melissa and Josh adore their dogs, so it was only fitting that they were invited as well. How cute are they?!

After the sweet ceremony in the front yard, dinner was held in the back. I love all the cactus and mountains in the background - such an iconic Arizona landscape.

If you’re planning an intimate backyard wedding in Arizona (or anywhere else, for that matter), I would love to capture the magic through photos. I love working with both digital and film, to create memories you’ll cherish.
