Maximalist, Colorful Backyard Wedding in Fresno, California

If you’re a fan of color, texture, and whimsical personalized details, you’re going love Jenn and Roque’s wedding. It’s truly a feast for the eyes.

Jenn and Roque share a sweet love story that revolves around their cherished Fresno, California home. It's where they fell in love, shared their first kiss, and where their creativity thrived during quarantine. Jenn, a self-proclaimed maximalist, had a clear vision for their intimate backyard wedding. She imagined vibrant colors, eclectic textures, personalized details, and their favorite music filling their backyard. Most importantly, though, they’d be surrounded by their dearest loved ones. She could vividly see it all through her mind’s eye - and she and Roque most definitely brought it to fruition.

Take a look at their vibrant, eclectic, backyard wedding photos and read more about their technicolor day below:

Jenn describes the wedding's atmosphere as a fusion of folk art and pop art, taking inspiration from the awe-inspiring Salvation Mountain art installation created by Leonard Knight. Something so cool and personal about their wedding decor is that many of the pieces came from their own home. They also included many custom, personalized details that reflect their style and culture. They embraced the talents of their local community to fulfill their creative vision, such as having a local glassblower craft their awesome color-blocked vases.

For Roque’s 40th birthday, Jenn had surprised him with a custom piñata. They couldn't resist recreating the idea, and having a few personalized piñatas made for their wedding: one made after each of them, one made to look like their adorable pup Max, and one of a gigantic blue ring-pop- which was what Roque used to propose. How sweet (pun intended)!

Their neighbor across the street contributed by creating a custom street sign of their wedding logo. Their personalized wedding logo - two hands holding a moon - symbolizes a favorite saying of Jenn's:

Love is like holding moonlight. It’s rare, and not everyone gets to touch it.
— Rumi

Guests didn’t miss the opportunity to join in on the technicolor fun. Many of them showed up in the most amazing colorful outfits. Jenn said that was one of her favorite highlights of the day. She said that at one point, her brother said to her, "Normally, you are the most colorful person in the room, but not today!" and she considered it a resounding success. Everyone involved in their wedding had contributed to the vibrant atmosphere they set out to create.

Jenn and Roque included many details stemming from Roque’s Mexican heritage, like this one. They created an ofrenda for his dad, following the beautiful tradition of Mexico’s Dia de los Muertos, to honor his memory at their wedding.

Their wedding guests loved the custom piñatas and crowd-surfed them during the lively dance floor. It sure was a lit party.

Another fun Mexican tradition found its way into the reception when they distributed confetti-filled eggs - a joyful Easter custom - which everyone gleefully smashed on each other's heads.
