Modern, Indian & Thai Multicultural Wedding in Los Angeles, California

I had the pleasure of capturing Scarlett and Kavi’s culturally blended wedding at Lombardi House in Los Angeles, California. The couple managed to plan a wedding that not only honored both of their cultural traditions, but also in a way that was fresh, modern, and fun for their guests.

I captured the majority of their wedding day on my digital SLRs, but I also added 35mm and 120mm film into the mix for their ceremony. I’m obsessed with shooting film and just added in to all of my packages for 2024. Take a look at Kavi and Scarlett’s gorgeous Indian / Thai wedding celebration below.

Lombardi House is a fully restored Victorian-style farmhouse situation smack dab in the middle of Hollywood. This 120 year old house is surrounded by majestic gardens and fruit trees. Something I love about it is that it’s a blank slate venue that can transform into any kind of vibe you’re going for.

Scarlett wore a stunning traditional Indian wedding dress. Her look was made complete with Mehndi, which is the henna adornment on both of her hands. This red-brown-tinted paste, used in Indian wedding tradition, is associated with positive spirits and good luck. Her Mehndi was done by Henna By Tulsi.

The couple had a unique and interactive “guest book” in the form of a vintage yellow telephone. Guests were encouraged to pick up the receiver and record their loving wishes to the bride and groom. This is a fun departure from your classic, written guest book.

Their floral decor by Mango had the most stunning pink/orange roses and monstera leaves. If you know me, you know that I love colorful wedding florals.

Their wedding ceremony blended their two cultures in such a unique and beautiful way. They took wedding traditions from both their Indian and Thai heritages to create an authentic ceremony, representing their separate backgrounds coming together as one.

The four photos directly above were captured with film! I love the way that film adds such warmth and sense of nostalgia and romanticism to wedding photography.

A Thai wedding tradition that they incorporated into their ceremony is Sai Monkhon. This is where the couple is symbolically joined by white thread.

After the ceremony, cocktail hour ensued under the twinkling bistro lights. One piece of decor that made their reception so unique is the use of pink LED lights. The pink lights permeated the dinner and party space and gave it an energetic, colorful vibe.

In addition to vibrant florals and tapered candles, citrus was also used throughout their decor. In Thai culture, oranges and other citrus fruits are thought to symbolize good fortune and future success.

Instead of having a formal catered dinner, they hired food trucks! One food truck served Thai (and Mexican) and the other served Indian. This was the perfect modern touch for their wedding reception.

This unique, culturally-blended wedding couldn’t have been possible without their dream team of vendors. Their planning team, SoCal Event Planners, specialize in planning and coordinating Indian weddings. They did an amazing job weaving elements of Scarlett’s Thai culture to celebrate her heritage as well. Seeing two people come from very different cultural backgrounds, and uniting their community with their love, was such a special sight to see.
